Add a Little Sparkle to Your Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is just a couple days away. If you are planning a party for the Fourth, here a few items to bring a little sparkle to your Independence Day festivities including a selection of patriotic outfits, a healthy July Fourth menu, an Americana table setting & a very American final image of the day!

The Outfit:
If you opt for shorts:

 If you opt for Pants:

J. Crew Byzantine Blue Toothpick Jeans: $125

If you want to dress it up:

Long-Sleeved Dress from Opening Ceremony/Adidas Olympic Collaboration (for a little added patriotism)

Seville Wedge Espadrilles in Blue: $128

Or wear a flirty skirt:

If you are attending a pool party or going on a boat ride:

If you are throwing the party:

A Healthy Sample Menu:

The Table Setting:

Small vases of single poppies should sprinkle the length of the table

Put a small vase of (unlit) sparklers near each place setting along with some festive matches

If you are attending the party:
The Hostess Gift:

Focus on a "Made in America" theme: this could mean a gift basket including cherry jam from Michigan, cheese from Wisconsin, wine from Napa, oranges from Florida, apples from Washington, and pineapple from Hawaii. Be creative & think of what your particular host/hostess enjoys. If they are a wine lover, stick with the wine theme. Every single state in the United States makes wine but you can just pick the best of the best (I.e. Napa, Washington state, Virginia, etc).

Oranges from Florida

Washington Apples

 Hawaiian Pineapples

Kona Coffee

Napa Wine
(also consider, Oregon, Washington, & Virginia)

Iowa Corn

Hawaii Macadamia Nuts (or make Macadamia Nut cookies)

Cherries from Michigan or Cherry Jam

Other options include:

CHEESE FROM WISCONSIN
BEER FROM MASSACHUSETTS (Sam Adams, anyone?)
VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP
COCA-COLA FROM GEORGIA
ORANGES FROM GEORGIA
HERSHEY BARS FROM PENNSYLVANIA

....the possibilities are endless so think of what your host loves & will actually be able to use & fill the basket with these items!

And our final image...

Yes, that is George Feeny from Boy Meets World. Before Boy Meets World, he played John Adams in the movie musical 1776. Watch it this week in honor of the Fourth to reminisce about the founding fathers & Boy Meets World simultaneously, a perfectly American blend of history, culture & pop culture.

UPDATE:
1776 is actually showing on TCM at 5PM on July 4th. Watch it as you slip on your patriotic attire!

Happy 4th of July!
